TESTS ON BAKELITE OIL PUMP Please find attached hereto copy of report covering a series of tests carried out on an oil pump casing and cover machined from a solid block of Bakelite. As is pointed out in the report, this method was used only to avoid the cost of moulds, and is not really satisfactory as the hard skin of resin is broken, and the porosity which results from moulding the thick block makes for small cracks to develop during machining. In a moulded condition no machining would be necessary, and it is felt that the troubles experienced on the "mock-up" pump would not develop, and that the question is worthy of consideration for future designs.
