To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Y8350 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG3.9.28. 14-TOOTH AXLES. When the standardisation sheet was issued for the 14-tooth axle it was recommended that they should only be used on heavy cars. We agree that with the present traffic conditions the 14-tooth axle may produce a better all round car. The rubber engine mounting which has been standardised and will shortly go on production, does considerably reduce the roughness of the engine at the high speeds so that one of the objections to the 14-tooth axle disappears. We still think there may be exceptions where the 15-tooth axle would give the best results, but as an all round standard, we recommend the 14-tooth axle. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
