-2- the life of the battery would not be any greater than that of your standard type which employs wood and flat perforated ebonite. We have not actually done any life tests on an assembly such as we believe the Americans are using, but we have been trying out a similar type of thing for the R.A.F. batteries. The conditions here, however, are somewhat different because the normal wood separator used on such batteries is very thin indeed, and rather liable to split, particularly in tropical temperatures. For the purpose of the R.A.F., therefore, it looks as if plain glass wool may be an advantage over wood separators, but our tests are not sufficiently complete yet for us to be able to express a definite opinion. On the whole we are inclined to think that the American design would not be any improvement over what you are at present using. If, however, you feel that you would like to test such a battery we shall be very glad to make one up for you. Yours faithfully, C.M. Intillett. | ||
