We are preparing an 'India' with front wheel brakes to start on a 10,000 miles test. The following parts need attention before the car can be sent to France. (1) Undershields. The car we have running has no undershields fitted to it. The designs for the undershields were received from WW. yesterday. (2) Modification to gearbox to prevent gears working out. We hope the 90° included angle splines will overcome this fault. We should have unground gears of this type on test tomorrow. (3) Front springs. The present car we are running bumps on to the buffers much too frequently. From the drawings it would appear that the present 20 HP. car has a clearance between the rubber buffer and the axle of 2.1". On the India with F.W.B. this clearance is reduced to 1.5". DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} suggested when we were at WW. that they would introduce camber in the front springs to obtain the necessary clearance. It will be necessary for us to obtain new front springs if this modification is made. (4) At present there is no stop for the brake pedal. (5) Squeaking brakes. The brakes on the car which we are running are squeaking. We think that something should be done with these before the car starts on the 10,000 miles test. contd :- | ||
