REPORT ON CHASSIS 93-NK AFTER 12,235 MILES.

ENGINE.

Engine power good and smooth. Compressions even.
Valve and fittings to E.2217.B. - these appear to be O.K.
Modified cast iron choke valve in down take pipe to Lec.2035 this occasionally sticks, but has not caused any stoppages on road. Carburetter butterfly throttle E.73166/7/8 - this has stuck half open on two occasions. On examination this appears to be due to very fine sand getting on to spindle. On both occasions it was very wet weather. Controls to Sch.625 - slight amount of slack has developed in these, but not excessive. Explosions on retard are very few. We have released petrol to boiler, and on our two runs since this was done we have not noticed any increased explosions. We consider that this car is quite equal to the old 40/50 HP. re. this complaint. Front engine suspension tube to Lec.2027 - this is quite O.K. Modified throttle governor spring to E.3925 - this is still operating satisfactorily. Spring drive Sch.628 - this appears, from outside examination, to be quite O.K. Mag. and Dynamo drive. Magneto coupling to Lec. 1990 - quite O.K. Modified dynamo drive to Lec.2019 and 2023 - O.K. Water pump whitemetal packing washer - E.70631 - still satisfactory. Housing of water pump - O.K. Condenser earth connection to D.Sch.254 - Ignition points to make and break are burnt out. We have dismantled the whole unit, as suggested by Mr. Clark, and found that the condenser was smothered with oil, condenser connections to the points were dirty and oily, screw holding platinum contact was also oily. We have cleaned all these connections, made good sound joints, and have fitted new points. We believe this may be due to our man being over-keen in oiling. I have instructed that this should only have one or two drops every 1000 miles, as there is only a ball race to be taken care of. Bone grey fibre rubbing block T.I.2. - This is wearing satisfactorily. Cover E.73134 for oil filter (oil relay system) quite O.K. Oil relief valve unit - we fitted weaker spring, brought over by myself, for main oil pressure. Re-fitted valve with very weak spring supplying rocker shaft. With this system the oil pressure was 25 lbs. cold, but dropped to 10 lbs. when hot. We have re-fitted the original strong spring which gives us 15 - 20 lbs. pressure when hot. These tests are not completed. Leak from oil relay drive has not increased since my last report. Leather plunger washer on piston (oil relay) - quite O.K. Examination of pistons shows excess of oil. We are not having trouble with plugs as previously. Slight leak of oil from centre bolts on top of crankcase.
