1020a Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 20th Sept. 1937. W.C. Devereux, Esq., High Duty Alloys Ltd., Trading Estate, SLOUGH, Bucks: Dear Devereux, Thank you for your letter of the 31st August. I have written to the India Tyre Co. about your tyres, and suggest that you remove one of them and hand this to the Local Agent, so that he can pass the tyre on to the India Co. I do not think that the cracks will in any way detract from the life of the tyre, but I think that the India Co. should know about it, and have a chance of expressing their opinion. Your letter of September 16th with regard to the Institution of Automobile Engineers has been received. I think that you have done right in this case, the important thing being to establish the bearing metal in practice, we could then get it backed up by Laboratory tests; in any case, I am sure that they could not help us at the moment. With regard to Leylands coming here on Tuesday, I do not know from what source you obtained this information, but on ringing up Mr. Spurrier this morning I was told that no arrangements whatever had been made, and they were waiting to hear from me. I have, therefore, provisionally made arrangements for Leylands' representatives to come on Thursday next, September 23rd, but if this does not suit your plans, the date can be altered. I enclose correspondence which I have had so far with Leylands. Yours sincerely, | ||
