The Empire Rubber Co.,
DUNSTABLE, Beds.

Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of May 19th and note that the rubber draught excluder to our RB.{R. Bowen}18003 collapses in the cure. We are unable to help you by thickening up the walls of the section as by so doing, the resistance to the doors would be too great and would prevent them closing satisfactorily.

We are sending you herewith a drawing of a weather strip made up of extruded and sponge sections combined. We thought that you might be able to cover the sponge section with a thin skin similar to the sample 5ft. lengths that you have in hand for us. It is necessary that the sponge is kept as soft as possible to allow easy closing of the doors. The section shown allows for 1/32" compression. We are enclosing a print which shows the position that the door seal in question will occupy. We thought that possibly this might be of help to you. We shall be glad to have your comments and to know if you consider that the suggested seal will be satisfactory. Also what the approximate cost is likely to be compared with the section RB.{R. Bowen}18003.

Regarding the latter paragraph of your letter in connection with the six 5ft lengths of sponge rubber door seal, we note that you replied on the 14th. instant to Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/AES. This reference is from our Purchasing Dept., which is in another part of the town, which normally the writer would not see. He will, however, get in touch by telephone and find out the nature of your reply.

Yours faithfully,
for ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED,
