102) 20th May, 1941. -continued- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/EAG.1/RH.{R. Hollingworth} Messrs. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Turner Ltd., Northdown House, Northdown Street, Kings Cross, LONDON. N.1. For the attention of Mr.Alan Turner. Dear Mr. Turner, Mr. Cheetham has shown me the recent lot of draught excluder rubber that has been sent to him. While this is an improvement from a point of view of the shape of the section, it is so thick that it would not be possible to use it in the space which is allowed for it round the door opening. The section is approximately 1/32" thicker that we called for on the drawing, and as it will not be possible to modify the extruding die, we have designed another section which will be more simple to produce, although I do not think that this would be as efficient as the original. As the rubber people do not seem to be able to give us what we want, I thought this was the wisest course. We are enclosing a blue print of the new section which is drawn twice full size. I would suggest that before the bulk of the rubber is made, it would be advisable to have a sample length of two or three yards to make sure that they have produced what is required and avoid waste of material. If the new section should prove to be satisfactory, I am sure it would be much easier for your people to cover. As you know, it is necessary for the rubber to be of the type that retains its shape and will not easily take a permanent set or distort when being covered. I have spoken to Mr. Cheetham over the telephone with reference to this, and he told me that you would be in Derby on Monday next, when if necessary, I P.T | ||
