Dear Fuller,

I received your cable reading as follows:

CHASSIS EIGHTEEN LF JUST RECEIVED HAS BAD STEERING HEAVY AND STICKY ON TURNS AT LOW SPEEDS STOP BALLOON TIRES ALONE ACCEPTABLE AMERICANS AND OUR STEERING PROBLEM GIVES US GREAT CONCERN STOP CANNOT SOMETHING RADICAL BE DONE TO HELP THIS SITUATION.

and have obtained reports from the officials concerned., (enclosed)

Fortunately Mr.Olley was discussing many matters with Mr.Royce, including the item referred to.

Mr.Olley then returned to Derby and discussed the matter further with the technical officials there, and eventually telegraphed to Springfield as follows:

SEND HIVES TWO PAIRS ELEVEN HUNDRED POUND FRONT SPRINGS A.8546 STOP RE 18 LF. BELIEVE NEW NARROW TREAD FRONT TIRES WILL CURE STICKING.

But, as his telegram did not state that it was in reply to your telegram sent from Long Island City, I cabled you this morning as follows:-

STEERING TROUBLE, FULLY CONSIDERED BY ROYCE OLLEY AND DERBY OFFICIALS OLLEY CABLED SPRINGFIELD.

Further consideration will now be given as to how far it is possible to use balloon tyres,
