| To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} X222 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}:6/KW.22.3.34. ENGINE MOUNTING. It is proposed to try a Terraplane engine mounting in a Bentley chassis. We know from experience that if the friction of engine torque reaction dampers on the Bentley is increased, the movement of the wings and lamps is diminished. We have to set these dampers to compromise between excessive wing flap and a rough engine. There is no American car that we know of with a soft engine mounting that does not isolate the wings from the frame by a central mounting. We think we should certainly try this on the Bentley, and should like to fit it at the same time as the larger body we are shortly fitting. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/H.Grylls. | ||
