For the attention of Mr. Lidsey.

[Handwritten: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | LID{A. J. Lidsey}]

Dear Sirs,

In connection with our conversation yesterday on various matters concerning D.W.S. Permanent Jacks, I confirm the result of this, as follows:-

D.W.S. JACKS ON 20/25 H.P. CARS.

When fitting the above cars to customer's or Coachbuilder's orders, our rear axle fittings as fitted by ourselves, do not foul existing parts of the car or endanger the oil pipes which exist near the point of fitting, but it is evident that if this fitting was used by unskilled hands, there is a possibility of the oil pipes being damaged.

We understand that you will be good enough to re-arrange these oil pipes in the future to minimize the danger of these becoming damaged by our 'U' bolts, also that you will consider modifying the spring pad or inserting a plate, to be incorporated during actual assembly of the axle. The pad or plate to be designed to take our Jacks, eliminating the use of 'U' bolts. If this method could be carried out, it would greatly assist us in fitting the cars here in London when these have to be equipped at the Coachbuilders, where facilities for good work are at their worst.

I will forward you in the course of a post or two, two suggested methods of supplying an ideal fixing for the Jacks on this particular car.

PROPOSED ALTERATION OF JACKS SUPPLIED FOR 40/50 H.P. CHASSIS.

In the course of a few days, we will forward to you a complete set of Jacks suitable for the 40/50 h.p. Chassis to be fitted to your test car shortly leaving for the Continent.

These Jacks will be fitted with double threaded screws instead of the single threaded screws supplied hitherto and also a modification to the knobs on the handle cross-bar enabling two different positions to be obtained with the single knob. I feel that provided there is not too much effort required at the start of lifting the car from the bare wheel rim, this new pattern Jack, will be a big improvement over the type we are now supplying to you. I will send

-Contd-
