We are in receipt of your letter of the 12th inst., and note that you have been conducting tests in connection with the over-night loss in the reading of these gauges. We are ourselves very disconcerted to hear that this varies as much as three gallons. It is entirely outside our experience here or in another country, where there are some million of the gauges in use, that a loss of this magnitude should be displayed on standing for even long periods. We are anxious to take the earliest possible steps to ascertain the cause, and our Mr. Davey will call upon you next week when in the Midlands. Unfortunately he cannot be there before that date.
