COPY TO HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X1487 E.8/HP. 11th May.1934. Messrs. S.U.Co., Bordesley Green Rd, Adderley Park, BIRMINGHAM. For the attention of Mr Skinner. Dear Mr Skinner, With reference to the question of the fires which have occurred on the Bentley, we have produced one or two schemes dealing with the features of the carburetters involved, and we are enclosing blueprints of same herewith purely as suggestions, which might be considered when deciding what alterations should be made. LeC.3911 shows a drain pipe from each floatchamber lid{A. J. Lidsey} connected to the air intake independently of the existing drain pipes, to avoid any depression effect from the connections to the spray chambers affecting floatchamber balance. This precaution may be found unnecessary but we have shewn how it can be done without interfering with the present pipes. With regard to the flooding device, we now propose to retain this but we think it ought to be improved somewhat by replacing the present split pin with a sleeve which sleeve would form a collar of some sort for providing a seal. Incidentally one does not like the possibility of the present split pin turning round and preventing the flooding spindle from returning to zero. We show a proposal for a modified flooding device on LeC.3925. The remaining blueprint LeC.3921 deals with the floatchamber needle, in which case we suggest trying a fluted needle so that any grit passing the valve seat can flow away via the grooves. | ||
