(1) We recommend CJ. and R.{Sir Henry Royce} agree to the following:-

In face of the evidence put forward in the Springfield Works Committee letter of Feb. 1st. we think there is no other alternative but to change the thick leaf spring to thin leaf spring, but we do feel, seeing that thick leaf springs are giving every satisfaction to our customers in this country, that possibly in the case of a certain percentage of owners in America who have thick leaf springs and who are satisfied, (and we understand some of them are satisfied,) that thick leaf springs could be retained.

We fully realise the different road conditions in America.

We are of the opinion that thick leaf springs taken off these chassis should not be returned to England. They should either be saved, - stored as spares, - or possibly scrapped entirely.

It would be a wrong policy, now that Derby is fitting thin leaf springs, to return to fitting thick leaf springs, in our opinion, unless CJ. and R.{Sir Henry Royce} think that this could be done.

We are, therefore, of the opinion that as Derby have made these chassis we should be responsible for the cost of this change.

(2) THERMOSTATS.

A cablegram from U.S.A. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} was discussed re Thermostats which America did not wish to fit on last 150 chassis of this year's programme. It was agreed this was a design matter and should be submitted to R.{Sir Henry Royce} SY. has written to R.{Sir Henry Royce} and explained the situation.
