8.B.V.- BENTLEY III.

Seen By

Further to my telephone message and the Daily Report, the total mileage of the engine when examined yesterday was 13,450 miles of which the first 2,250 miles were run in England.

We have returned for your inspection.

No 6 piston, seized and cracked.
Rear Vandervell thrust washer.
H.T. wires removed.

We have fitted a standard Bentley piston, which we had in stock, in No 6. It would be very difficult to tell that there was an odd piston in the engine, so we shall not go to the delay and expense of obtaining a complete set from Paris, moreover we shall get the full mileage on the other five.

We have fitted the Neoprene H.T. cables. This needed a bit of juggling as, a Bentley instead of Wraith conduit was supplied.

Below is a sketch of Nos. 1, 2, and 6, intermediate Vandervell main bearings in which cracks were reported.
