AUTO-KLEAN STRAINERS. As supplied to the Admiralty, the Principal Engineering and Public Transport Companies. A British Invention . . Of British Manufacture. . . . Patented throughout the World. Revolutionary and Efficient Method of Straining. (No Gauze used). How the 'AUTO-KLEAN' STRAINER WORKS. The only Filter that can be Cleaned while the Engine is running by a mere Turn of the Handle. Straining is accomplished on the principle of passing the petrol, oil, etc., through a series of fine slots in the wall of a cylindrical cartridge which constitutes the straining medium (see Fig. 1) formed by a pile of circular discs mounted on a central spindle and interleaved by thin cleaning blades, the thickness of which is a measure of the straining required (see component parts, Fig. 3). The liquid passes from the outside to the inside of the cartridge, and the dirt, fluff or suspended matter contained in the liquid is intercepted by the edges of the discs, which in course of time become coated as in the case of gauze. In order to clean the cartridge slots, all that is required is to give the handle situated at the top or end of the Strainer one-third of a turn. This has the effect of revolving the discs which are keyed to the spindle attached to the handle against a series of stationery cleaning blades (three per slot) of special formation. The action of the revolving cartridge is to scrape the dirt, etc., from the slots, carrying it clear of the cartridge face. The dirt thus removed settles to the bottom of the Strainer and collects in the very large sump provided. It will thus be evident that the Strainer can be completely cleaned whilst being used under pressure or otherwise without the necessity of breaking any joint, venting the system or stopping the engine. An examination of the special form of the blades illustrated will show that the cleaning edge of same is set obliquely to the periphery of the slot in the cartridge face. The blades have, therefore, a wedging action on the dirt, carrying it clear of the cartridge face (see Fig. 3). Fig. 1. Section of Strainer type "P.S." suitable for petrol or lubricating oil, showing how the oil or liquid flows. The Auto-Klean Strainer is designed for all classes of service, viz., for Cars, Lorries, Motor-Boats, Aircraft, etc., etc. Fig. 2.—Strainer type "P.S." as above, showing sump or dirt chamber removed and exposing cartridge for inspection only. To clean sump, remove plug at the bottom of the sump. Dimensions shown are in inches and millimetres. Fig. 3.—Illustration of circular discs and cleaning blades. The three cleaners are shown in the position they would occupy when erected on the cartridge spindles. Notice how scraper blades clean right up to centre of holes. Price of "P.S." Type Strainer in Brass or Aluminium, 21/- each. (INCLUDING UNIONS). | ||
