REVOLUTION IN STRAINING A sluggish Engine is often due to a Dirty Gauze—overcome this by using AUTO-KLEAN STRAINERS THE GAUZELESS PETROL FILTER. The only Filter that can be cleaned while the Engine is running, by a mere Turn of the Handle. [Image of a filter cutaway] MODEL C. FIXED CLEANING BLADES PILE OF CIRCULAR PLATES ROTATED BY HANDLE DIRT SUMP Fig. 4.—Model "C" for small cars. Made in Brass only, with Phosphor Bronze Blades and Plates. Price, 12/6 each. Model C, as illustrated (Fig. 4) embodies all principals of the larger type P.S. and in addition has a cork seated "shut off" cock. The action of turning the fuel on or off automatically cleans the Filter. The construction of Model C is slightly different from Model P.S., having a star cleaning blade instead of the three separate blades shown in P.S. Model (Fig. 3). These star blades are held rigid by a rib cast on the inside of main casting. This type is equally as efficient as the larger one and we specially recommend this model for cars up to 12 H.P. The average gauze used in present day strainers is doubtless fine, but the "Auto-Klean" strains three times finer. The main reason why finer gauzes are not used is that they choke so readily, causing considerable inconvenience and frequent hand cleaning, always a dirty job, and never absolutely reliable, and sometimes necessitating burning out. The Auto-Klean method of cleaning by a mere turn of a handle overcomes this, and makes finest straining possible, and a maximum flow is always assured. Owing to the difficulty in cleaning a gauze strainer, it frequently occurs that no thought is given to it, until it is completely choked, thus causing forced stoppages. It is therefore clear that before this happens there must come a time when the gauze is partially choked, with the result that there is an insufficient supply of Petrol to the carburettor causing "popping" and uneven running of the engine, a cause which is often very difficult to diagnose—most carburettor jet troubles being due to either lack of a Filter or to one which is inefficient. These strainers are the development of larger oil strainers as used in the Marine Trade, standardized up to 15 inch pipe line.
