Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls} 328? LA{L. A. Archer}1/T21.10.37 FLEXIBLE ENGINE COUPLING - PH.III We have now done a number of tests with this coupling and with the results obtained we feel that we should like this coupling brought on as soon as possible, as long as you are satisfied with the life of the plates. (handwritten: 40,000 miles) When this coupling is fitted, we find that it is not so necessary to work to the very fine limits of alignment between engine and gear box as with the present production type of coupling. We also find that the same degree of accuracy as regards the balance of the coupling is not so necessary. In one case a coupling which was 1/3rd.oz. out of balance was condemned owing to vibrations because of this out of balance, was made perfectly satisfactory by simply fitting to this coupling the flexible plates only. I have now returned the coupling to HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} LA{L. A. Archer} | ||
