PHANTOM III. VALVE GEAR.

We give herewith decisions regarding the queries of your memo By/CS.3/EH.6.8.37 which, together with our previous memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}5/AP.7.8.37, completes the job.

These apply only in conjunction with the use of the solid rocker gear.

1. The filter pocket should be removed from the engine arm on future castings.

2. Surplus oil feed bosses removed from future castings.

3. No necessity to drill intermediate oil holes in cylinder head or crankcase casting.

If when the solid rocker gear comes on to Production, crankcases made to suit the hydraulic valve gear are still in existence, these should be used up and not scrapped. Modifications can be made to suit the solid rocker gear by using plugs at the surplus oil holes and blank plate to cover the deleted tappet filter etc.
