12-EX. COOLING.

The cooling of 12-EX was found to be very satisfactory, as reported in my general report on the running of this car. Have you been able to make the necessary tests to compare it with our present standard cooling? It gave one the impression of having at least 7 or 8°C. more reserve than our present standard cars and this is thought to be much more than could be attributed to the very small additional area of radiator matrix. The only other alteration is that the fan is much closer to the back of the matrix. If this latter is the real cause for the increased efficiency of the cooling system, would not the same effect be given by cowling the back of the radiator up to the periphery of the fan as it is placed at present. This would be a comparatively simple alteration to make in the case of cars which are subject to extreme conditions in the way of heat and it would be very valuable to know whether it would provide a cure for overheating. Have you any information which would throw any light on this matter.

At the same time, are we in a position to fit the pressure system as fitted to 8-EX, on any cars which are specially required to stand the extreme conditions of overheating, or in the case of complaints of overheating?
