27th. October, 1938.

F.{Mr Friese} Blackith Esq.,
Messrs Wellworthy Piston Rings Ltd.

occasion we have supplied a complete Laboratory report. It is unfortunate that Mr. Richards' several visits to you have not been confirmed. He made, on each occasion, a record for internal purposes, but as you confirmed what was done, he tells me he did not consider it necessary that he too should write confirming his interpretation of the meeting. He, of course, should have acknowledged your Minutes, and stated whether he agreed with them or not. This in future I have arranged for the Laboratory to do.

We agree that a meeting with Rolls-Royce is most necessary, and I have left it with Mr. Richards to arrange with yourself and Mr. Salt a suitable date on which this discussion can be held. I am most anxious that we all have a clear understanding of what is required, not only in regard to casting and machining, but respecting points to be observed in the design of these bearings.

I have tried in this letter to sum up very fairly my understanding of the position to date, and while I know you have had many difficulties yourselves, I have no desire to emphasise the fact, providing in future you do not over stress the difficulties you have had with, I think two melts of metal from us.

Mr. Richards will telephone you when he has fixed a date with Mr. Salt.

May I add that I have delayed replying only because I want to be quite certain that there will be no possible doubt in future about the ingot metal we produce, nor a possibility of error by our Chemical Laboratory. I am satisfied that you may in future rely absolutely upon both.

Yours sincerely,

H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Herrington.
