1235 To Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/AP.11.1.37. CHASSIS LUBRICATION With reference to Roy.{Sir Henry Royce}1/MG.8.1.37., we are proposing to take up the question of the number of oils, greases, etc. recommended in the Instruction Book, with the Administration. An R.R. recommendation used to mean something. If the number of lubricants recommended in the Instruction Book goes on increasing at the present rate, it will soon mean absolutely nothing. We cannot possibly test all the oils at present enumerated. Furthermore, often when we have tested these oils, the manufacturers change their specifications at will, retaining the same name, the result being that unless we repeat the test at frequent intervals, we cannot be certain if the lubricant is still satisfactory for our product. At present, Price's Oil is recommended for the steering box to the exclusion of everything else, we think therefore, that they have no cause for complaint. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
