7-EX FOR MR ROYCE.
PETROL TANK WITH TWO-LEVEL DEVICE.
------------------------------

Referring to Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Evl/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} 9.7.25. and dealing with Heading 2, we assume it is clearly understood that whilst the tank will register the full 20 gallons on the dial correctly when it is full, it will not register what the tank contains correctly when it gets below the level of the reserve compartment, because obviously it will read an empty tank when the reserve tank is still full, as the indicator must be in one tank or the other.

We do not understand, therefore, quite what is meant when you say it would start at Zero when the tank is entirely empty.

Obviously the indicator cannot read correctly all the way up the scale. We had tried to correct this discrepancy by engraving the words "Main Supply" on the dial. We possibly ought to have gone a step further and added below this - "Two Gallons Reserve".

We read your memo as meaning - divide the dial into 20 gallons from "Full" to "Empty", calibrated to suit the tank in the usual way. This scheme has obviously the fault outlined above.
