DY{F R Danby}/mwh c. ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} c. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} x 719. BY17/G.6.2.31. N.2 SERIES - R.H. and L.H. CHASSIS. I wish to confirm the position discussed with you verbally this afternoon viz. that we must have Ferodo on all brakes (front and rear) on L.H. cars, and that 75 sets of this material must immediately be put on order. If andwhen N.2 series R.H. are being built, the first few chassis must certainly adhere to this instruction, later we are inclined to think that the Ferobestos material which was previously specified will be usable when we use brake drums having a number of air cooling ribs. It is evident that the cooler the drum is kept the better the Ferobestos will wear, and personally I think it is a matter of temperature, and since the old brake drums have been condemned on this basis and new ones with air cooling ribs will be in use in the near future, it is most probable that this will clear up the whole problem.
