BRAKES.

We are now having chassis produced with Ferobestos material on the rear footbrake. Although these chassis have the increased area brake shoe fitted, the wear on brakes is considerable and necessitates readjustment of the operating toggles, and to carry out this operation it means dismantling the hubs. This readjustment of toggles has not been necessary since we gave up using Ferobestos some time ago and adopted Bonded Ferodo.

Incidentally I see that the pegging of the toggle has been deleted. While this is helpful to us when readjustment is necessary, no doubt you are aware of the risk of these being continually readjusted in service until contact is made between the rivet heads and brake drum.

The Works are just commencing to fit the anti-squeak type of front brake shoe on the left hand chassis, I see these are also fitted with Ferobestos - I am under the impression that the Experimental sets of these shoes were fitted with Bonded Ferodo.

Will you please give your consideration to the points I have raised and let me know whether you consider we shall be in order in despatching cars to America and elsewhere -

(1) With Ferobestos on the rear footbrake shoes.
(2) Toggles not pegged.
(3) Ferobestos on the anti-squeak type front brake shoes.
