To Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1153 Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/ET.6.7.41. Car Gear Boxes. ------- Before Tarlton leaves car gear boxes and goes back to winch or tank transmission, I would like him to do a three speed box, with column control, suitable for an engine not larger than 10 H.P. My view is that the four speed box is too extravagant and too heavy for the Wisp. We have some fair experience on the Studebaker and Vauxhall boxes, as to what is wrong with the present designs. The box on my 10 H.P. car sounds like a bag of nails One big advantage of the three speed box is that we can take the Chevrolet column control complete. When this box is finished, I propose to get it made and fitted in the Austin, together with our improvements in suspension and the three-cylinder Wisp engine.
