X.2628. To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} c. to M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} RECEIVED Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG25.10.20. X.2628 RE SPRINGS. It will be interesting to know what extra cost is incurred on rear springs if we have all the leaves ground all over. Our experimental tests have not shown that we gain any advantage by grinding the leaves all over - the bedding of the springs is still on spots and still seizes up. Our pre-War springs were not ground all over and we had no complaints with regard to those springs which would be affected if the leaves had been ground. We think we could easily get Mr. Royce to agree for the leaves not to be ground if there is any material increase in the cost of these. Will Mr. Whitehead please supply this information.
