BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X. 7060 E4/M26.1.29. 'SS{S. Smith}' VALVE TAPPET GUIDE LOCATION. Referring to LeC.2646 of which we have sent you a print, this shews the tappet guide fixed by a dowel screw, the tapping hole being drilled after the guide has been placed in position and squared up. We have shewn this proposal because we understood from Mr. Coverley that the present scheme of grooves and pins was found in practice to have too great a margin of error, so much so in fact that these guides on the later SS.{S. Smith} experimental engines were all pinned in position. We do not doubt that this difficulty exists but we should like the responsible department to say whether or not with proper equipment the scheme is practicable, before we send LeC.2646 to R.{Sir Henry Royce} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
