Coverley - Production Engineer} By/RD. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. E.6/HP.1.11.32. re Peregrine ignition. We have been going over the Peregrine ignition system, with a view to clearing up all the proposed improvements that are required so that these can be incorporated in final units for test. The list of points is as follows: (1) Modification to the high tension moulding to avoid the effect of water accumulating in the terminal pockets, and on the top of the terminal projections causing misfiring. We have a scheme in hand with By/RD. for this. ✓(2) Make and break cam form to be made same as Delco. This has now been instructed by By/RD. (3) Make and break springs to be of lighter gauge, same as Delco. By/RD. is looking into this. (4) Rivetting of fibre block on make and break arms coming loose. We believe the make and break spring, being underneath the fibre block is somewhat responsible for this, and we have an alternative scheme in hand in which the spring is attached to the make and break lever by an independent rivet. BY/RD. (5) Excessive friction of advance and retard movement, and picking up of aluminium faces in contact. We have a scheme in hand for bushing this, as suggested by RMC, at the same time we think it is very likely that the earthing springs exert an excessive pressure. We have arranged with By/RD. to reduce the thickness of the earthing springs from .018" to .012". (6) We have a scheme in hand for an improved condenser connection with By/RD. (7) Timing of rotor with cam. Instructions for rectifying this have been issued - By/RD. (8) Experiments with rotor contact tail deleted, and width | ||
