Push Button Switch.

"Operation of this unit makes two connections providing for the supply of current to the three auxiliary circuits of the starter system. The magnitude of these currents is such that the application of too light a pressure does not make sufficiently good contact to permit their passage without resistance".

or alternatively

"That the application of reasonable pressure smartly applied is desirable, in order to prevent undesirable resistance being encountered in their passage through the switch".

Electrically operated main and auxiliary switch unit.

"The copper contacts, ............ copper and silver contact gaps on which the correct operation of the switch depends."

This main and auxiliary switch unit is intended only to be electrically operated. It should not be operated by hand in any circumstances with the battery connected as this may lead to serious damage to the pinion and gear ring teeth. A warning notice..... ............ Rolls-Royce Ltd.

In re-connecting a switch unit it is very essential that clean and sound electrical connections be made owing to the heavy currents which these have to carry".

Use of battery for Starter.

"Careless use......................... .. in accordance with subsequent recommendations and instructions contained in the battery makers pamphlet inserted at the end of this book."

Battery Discharge.

"Care should be taken to avoid an inadvertent discharge of the battery."

Such a discharge may occur if there is an earth in the wiring system, or if the ignition switch be left on in error and the platinum contacts of the make and break happen to be left on contact.
