Too early a repetition of push button pressure followed upon a non-start, should be very carefully avoided or damage to the pinion and wheel teeth may result in consequence of the rotary energy still contained in engine or motor. It is also desirable to avoid inadvertently pressing the starter button when the engine is running.

If faulty operation of the starter system should develop, refer to the matter under Electrical Fault Location, page - .

A possible occurrence is that the first operation of the push button switch may fail to effect engagement of the pinion. In such circumstances enagagement will almost invariably occur if the push button be released and re-pressed.

The starter should not be used unless the ignition lever has been fully retarded on its quadrant".

"The starter motor........... driving end bearing".

A pneumatic shock absorbing device is provided on the commutator end of the armature shaft to cause noiseless arrest of the axial movement of the comparatively heavy armature in either direction.

When the brushes have been fitted it is well to run the motor light on 6-volts for say 15 minutes, during which the initial bedding of the brushes is ~~arranged~~ assisted by scraping their working surfaces.

When replacing the starter motor, it is important that clean and sound electrical connections of the three wires to the motor terminals are re-obtained owing to the relatively heavy currents which these have to carry. The terminals and wires being suitably marked to ensure correct replacement."
