Bailey - Chief Engineer} [crossed out] c.to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c.to Ls. [crossed out] RECEIVED [stamped] JAN 27 1921 [stamped] Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}4/NJ27.1.21. Chassis [crossed out] Rear Axle [crossed out] Re American made Goodyear rim used with wire wheels for straight side tyres. X1177 [handwritten, crossed out] Please refer to your note By9/F10/1.21 confirming the policy which, at that date, had been decided upon in respect of wire wheels (with American made Goodyear rims for straight side tyres) despatched to America. Please note that we have since received a cable from Springfield stating that cars cannot be sold in America with Clincher tyres; therefore they desire that all further chassis sent from Derby be provided with Dunlop shells and spokes only and they will obtain suitable rims in America and complete the assembly there. I have advised EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} of this, but I think you will agree it is necessary that formal instructions be issued to the foregoing effect and perhaps you will do this. I gather from the cable we have received from Springfield that in future they wish to build the wire wheels on that side, receiving only the shells and spokes from here, but we could not agree to this unless the Dunlop Rim & Wheel Co. are prepared to modify in the same manner the orders which they have still in their books from us. I am writing them on the subject and if they agree, well and good, we can carry out the request made by Springfield, unless you consider that it is inadvisable to do so. Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} | ||
