(2) 2 FOUNDRY Cont. "The advantages of a moulding machine are somewhat doubtful, but it might be tried when we get to this stage, also some quicker way of melting the metal, otherwise I am afraid it will be necessary to put down more melting furnaces of the present type. But it might be worth while to consider at such a time the use of the oil melting furnaces, which for certain classes of casting might be quick and economical. This would be my treatment of the foundry for immediate progress, and Mr. Wormald would be quite satisfied with such proceedure." With reference to the suggestion that Hunt should be put on the drafting of patterns for plate mouldings. Messrs. Wormald and Nadin consider that very substantial progress has been made, and think that it is only because Mr. Royce has no knowledge of the work that has been carried out that he has written in this way. Mr. Wormald has devoted a bench and three men entirely to plate pattern work and they have been engaged on this work during the past seven weeks. In addition to Hunt - who has only been able to spend a portion of his time on plate moulding - we have had another draughtsman who has devoted the whole of his time to plate moulding. Mr. Wormald thinks it is better for patterns in use to be kept in the Foundry, and for patterns not in use to be kept with Mr. Cheetham, as there is less risk of patterns being destroyed in case of fire. | ||
