We have recently had cause to complain of the starting carburetter control on the instrument board not remaining in its closed position when driving on the road. This control operates the starting carburetter, main carb. jets and the extra oil to the cylinder scheme, and on both 22-EX and 27-EX it works itself through an angle of 45°, that is to a point half way between "RUNNING" position and "EXTRA OIL AND RICH" position, connecting the control rod to the two-way cock on the crankcase for the extra oil feed. We have found that this is due to engine movement, and by disconnecting the control rod to the two-way cock on the crankcase for the extra oil feed, the controls will remain in the "RUNNING" position. We have overcome this trouble by moving lever E.79868 so that it works over the top of the cock instead of below it with its vertical position as the CLOSED position. To avoid the extra oil operating rod from fouling the crankcase breather pipe, we have shortened lever E.79868 from centres 1.187" to .875", and lever E.84123 from 1.375" to 1.00". Sketch attached.
