WRAITH CHASSIS.

The following items have received attention, resultant economies being shown on the attached analysis :-

Synchromesh Mechanism.

It is proposed that B.III type Synchromesh be adopted on Wraith for 2nd, 3rd and top speeds, since the detail components are less in number and of a more simple nature than existing Wraith parts. A typical example showing expensive nature of the present Wraith Synchromesh is outer member GW.1978. This piece which requires 45 manufacturing operations having 8½ hours total time allowance, and 46 hours setting time, is eliminated on B.III Synchromesh. The saving provided by adopting B.III Synchromesh on Wraith is approximately £5. 5. 6d. per chassis.

Damper Pump.

If B.III type damper pump were used on Wraith Gearbox, existing damper pump units FW.747 would be dispensed with. In addition Speedo Drive GW.1161 would also be deleted, since provision is made on B.III damper for Driving Speedo direct from Servo Shaft.

Adoption of this damper pump provides a saving in Factory Cost of £2. 12. 6d. per chassis.

Dynamo Drive.

The present dynamo drive appears unduly complicated, owing to nature of oil ways, grooving of bushes, and design of spider coupling.

Sketch is attached hereto showing a simplified dynamo drive having cast bronze housing without bushes, and further modifications which provide a total saving of 4/6d per chassis.

Handwritten text (right margin): The correction here is OK because ch includes deletion of a 2nd speed universal coupling.
