Investigation into why side lamps were burning out, which was traced to faulty bulbs from the supplier.

X 8800 X 6783 With reference to the complaint that our dynamos were generating too much current at too high a voltage, which resulted in the side lamps on certain chassis melting the filaments away, we got back two dynamos after a considerable amount of trouble, from Hoopers, through whom the complaint was originally made. We had both dynamos carefully tested out, but could find absolutely no reason for the complaint in question. We then wrote and attempted to obtain some samples of the electric bulbs which had given trouble, but instead of getting the bulbs, we were merely given the lamp numbers, which were useless. We have, however, traced the trouble to its source, namely, that Messrs Lucas admit that a certain number of lamp bulbs got out with wrong filaments, and that the side lamps blowing was due to the lamp bulb itself, and not to either the dynamo we fit or the batteries. We have arrived at this definite conclusion as a result of the experiments carried out, and EFC. reporting these experiments to Mr. Minchin, who concurred with the complaints originally; the latter now definitely informs us that the facts of the case are as above.
