Sidgreaves - MD} CONTROL FOR EXHAUST CUT OUT. I am absolutely in sympathy with the general principle that chassis should not be delivered in an incomplete state, but it would appear in this case that we are faced with trying to find the lesser of two evils. On the one hand, if the chassis is delivered complete, it is practically certain that one or more of these rods will be bent whilst the body is being mounted, trimmed and finished. Once bent it will never be as efficient as formerly. On the other hand, if the chassis is delivered with the rods uncoupled there may be difficulties regarding coupling up in certain cases, particularly those of cars at outlying provincial coachbuilders. There is a third alternative which might be adopted, if agreed, and that is, for us to disconnect these rods on delivery of chassis to those coachbuilders where we have regular inspection and could be certain that they are properly replaced before final delivery, and this course would deal with probably 75% of the total number of cars and would leave the other 25% undisturbed. Would you please see whether the necessary Departments at W. agree with this proposed action. [Handwritten Initials CWB] CWB. | ||
