HOTEL DE FRANCE, CHATEAUROUX, Indre. France. GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}/3/JAB. 16th August 1936 To. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From. G.W.H. PARIS TRIALS CAR. One cannot conceive how this car was passed off. It has got every known fault that we experienced with 22.G.V. on test in London. 1) Steering joggles & shocks very bad, wanders. 2) CARBURATION. Misfires on pick-up. 3) No breather fitted to float chamber, will not start when hot. 4) Bad hesitation on pick-up, cuts out 50/52 MPH. when using approximately half throttle, this is the change over of jets. Slow running no good, Builds up. 5) Ride not good. 6) DYNAMO. There is not a car produced with a guard over the dynamo ventilation which we pointed out, and had fitted to our car and Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}'s, and I believe Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s. See memo Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}/3/KW.27.3.36. 7) We spent in London a considerable time locating a knock in the front of the car. This was eventually traced to the torque reaction dampers not having sufficient clearance for the movement of the frame and engine. We elongated the holes and cured it. When the new engine was fitted, the Fitters removed our torque dampers and fitted new ones not liking our elongated holes, consequently, we bent the arms of the torque dampers, had bad knocks and had to again elongate the holes in the centre plate. This was reported in our daily reports and fully reported upon in the 10.000 & 12.000 Miles Report. Apparently nothing has been done. The Paris Trials Car is just as bad. 8) The clutch is good for take up but rattles when dis-engaged. ------------ G.W.H. | ||
