B.J. COPY. CWB7/LH{Mr Haworth}27.11.24. DIRT IN AUTOVAC TANKS. With reference to the question of necessity for providing our autovac tanks with some method of washing them out, during the present test of 48-PK, at 4400 miles I had reason to suspect dirt in the petrol system owing to intermittent flooding of the carburetter. On examination the gauze filter immediately above the Autovac tank and the filter on the carburetter were both found to be very dirty and to require instant cleaning. This clearly shows that dirt has access to the Autovac tank. I am not aware of the exact details of the internal fitting of the pipes leading from this tank, but it would seem probable that, under these circumstances, it is possible for a thin layer of dirt to accumulate on the bottom of this tank which it should be possible to wash outl (sgd.)
