With reference to the telegram from BJ. re
complaint of piston rattles on 2.EX Car. This we know is due
to carbon binding on the top band of the piston. We wrote
to Maddocks two or three days ago and told him he should, at
the first opportunity, remove the cylinders and clean off the
carbon and also report to us the state of the top of the pistons.
We have, since 2.EX Car left here, been testing means of over-
coming this fault. For the existing pistons we are trying an
extra ring above the present rings, there is room to get the
stop in.
