BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL SECRET. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M28.6.29. x2066 'JAPAN' HYPOID REAR AXLE. Mr. Royce wishes to reduce the offset from 1" to .850", which is equivalent to the 1" offset on the SS.{S. Smith} axle. We send herewith N. scheme 2917. shewing the alterations to the casing etc needed to accommodate this. All the differential gear, bearings, etc, seem to come in without modification. We notice that on N. scheme 2886. the word 'China' is used in all the comparative tables of loads, stresses, etc. Would you kindly alter this on the original to 'Japan'. We believe you have not yet started to detail N. scheme 2886., so that when you do so there will be no difficulty in incorporating the changes indicated on N. sch. 2917.
