ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED, NIGHTINGALE ROAD, DERBY. TELEGRAMS: "ROYCAR," DERBY. TELEPHONES. 813 (Two Lines). DEPARTMENTAL MEMO. This column is for Name of Person addressed. DATE. 3/ As it is, after accelerating and retardation the engine misses fire for the first 2 or 3 charges of gas that pass into the engine and then picks up with a jerk or fails to pick up at all, the engine stopping altogether. Again during our experiments with the "fading away" effect a glass window was fitted in the carburettor body showing how the petrol was supplied from the high speed jet, and it was astonishing to see the way the petrol passed through the carburettor in big beads of petrol. The Polyrhoe carburettor which does not have the "fading away" trouble appears to supply the petrol through the carburettor in quite a nice fine spray. I am arranging to take further experiments on the dynamometer with these two carburettors to see whether the various speeds show the Polyrhoe (for consumption) as being more favourable, there are also several other experiments which can be made.
