This column is for Name of Person addressed. DATE. 2/ It is a fact that the opening of the induction pipe cock on the retard accentuates the trouble. This trouble chiefly happens after the engine has been running at pretty high speeds under full power conditions such as one gets by ascending a hill, and then allowed to retard, that is decending the hill. The question of petrol being in the induction pipe has also been previously demonstrated by other tests, after accellerating and then retarding, the engine governs better by setting the carburettor while engine is retarding temporary weak. Under these conditions the engine fires immediately the throttle opens but soon commences to fail until the carburettor is again set normal. Again the fact of opening the induction pipe cock during retardation and closing again as soon as the throttle commences to open causes the engine to do the same.
