Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Date 10.1.30 Page 2 the gauge, owing to liability to becoming blocked in transit and handling. The fused tube method must incorporate the small capillary for a certain distance at any rate. To get the large areas for the elimination of blocking, a gland fixing in the actual body, with the connection for the pressure balance line rigidly attached to the top of the casting, appears to be the only arrangement for which we have room in the existing installation. The fused tube method appears to lend itself to the bottom of the glass, as by this means we can support the glass in the body rigidly at one end only; the other end being free, and any small movement taken up in the free portion of the capillary without stressing the glass tube. We believe that both means are satisfactory; probably as you suggest, the balance being in favour of the fused tube method, at any rate as regards cost and economising space, but there is the difficulty of providing large areas which will not become blocked. We will proceed with the modification as quickly as possible, and return the gauges to you for approval. We remain, dear Sirs, Yours faithfully, H.M. HOBSON, Ltd. Joint Managing Director. | ||
