Fix for stretching exhaust valves on customer cars by fitting new heavy-type valves and stronger tappet springs.

We are having complaints from customers of the exhaust valves losing all their clearance after a hard run. This complaint is growing, so we have therefore taken one of our standard cars, 25-MX{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}, and had it fitted up with the new heavy type E.82486 exhaust valves, which were fitted to 19-EX for the 10,000 miles test, which entirely eliminated the trouble. When these valves were fitted, we found that it was necessary to fit stronger tappet springs, to prevent the standard valve springs from periods of swishing. We find upon testing the car with these modifications that we are better off as regards valve bounce. On 2nd. gear it was possible to reach 50 m.p.h. without the valves bouncing, and on 3rd. gear - 72 m.p.h. was reached.
