For France with 24EX. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} c. to Ds. X7772. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson}8/MJ.25.4.30 We thank you for your note Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RJ.1/23.4.30. We have made some progress with the single point radiator mounting since you left. We find that we get better results if we put considerable load on the frictional centre support. While you were here we did not realise that there was a distance piece in the centre diabolo rubber which prevented us getting the full load at this point. We find that the mounting is surprisingly susceptible to the tension put on the rubbers each side of the radiator. By trying different arrangements we have found that, using some very soft engine mounting rubbers we had, we got the best results when they were set up only .150 each side. Under these conditions 1-WJ was really quite good, even with the tyre pressures at 25 lbs/sq.in. On a good road the mascot is almost steady. On our Spread Eagle test road, it does dither when we hit a big bump, but this is to be expected and does not catch the eye very much as it is not going on all the time. We should say that it is most improbable that the 'jellying' which is left would be complained of by a customer. Our difficulty now is to make a scheme that will work out of the bits which W.W. designed, because the essential seems to be a very low rating rubber and the space provided by | ||
