| To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Cars for Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} and Lp.{Mr Lappin} Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}11/E7.5.34 Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Referring to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/MJ.2.5.34 I quite agree that Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} could usefully have the 20/25 HP chassis which is being used by Lp.{Mr Lappin} and Lp{Mr Lappin}; be given a Bentley instead. It would, I fear, mean merely scrapping the body on the 20/25 chassis as it would not be much use to Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} As regards a Bentley for Lp.{Mr Lappin} the difficulty is to know how to get one because , as you know, we cannot give delivery for so long ahead. On thinking the matter over it occurred to me that the best way of dealing with the matter would be to let him have the chassis of the 100 miles an hour car and definitely scrap that body which we all know is quite useless. The 100 miles an hour car has been in existence now for about 5 or 6 months. It has not, so far as I can see, served any useful purpose and your experimental work can hardly be carried out on it satisfactorily because the body is so far removed from the standard type. If you release this car you would not really be short of one because you are now about to build a new one for the next 10,000 miles test. I think perhaps the best way would be for you to speak/to me about this on the trunk call to-morrow after-noon. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} | ||
