Modification and testing of PH.III oil coolers on the 35-EX car.

In order to endeavour to reduce the chance of oil cooler failures on Ph.III cars (these failures having reached a very serious state) we are considering modifying the oil pipes so that the overflow oil only goes through the cooler, and the latter is therefore only subjected to a very slight pressure. We wish to ascertain (1) What this pressure will be. (2) What the oil flow through the cooler will be. (3) What the heat dissipation of the cooler will be. To do this we wish you to rig up, to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std's verbal instructions, on 35-EX car, a pipe from the air flow oil passage to the cooler and from the cooler to the wheel case - it will be necessary to fit a cooler which we will supply for the purpose. Will you also make the necessary connections for us to use an external cooler to keep the oil temperature down on the dynamometer.
