X1487 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}10/KT. Nov. 2nd, 1932. The S.U. Carburetter Co. Ltd, East Works, Bordesley Green Road, Adderley Park, Birmingham. For the attention of Mr. Skinner. Dear Sirs, Many thanks for the carburetters. Mr. Elliott thinks that we are going to be slightly down in power with these carburetters and wants the design to be 1 1/2" for this engine. As I have only a car running on the road, and not an engine on the test bed, which will give me exact figures, I should like to have your considered opinion, judging from your previous experience, as to what difference there is likely to be between the 1 3/8" and 1 1/2" throttle diameter carburetters. With 2 1 3/8", we are getting 110 HP. at 4000 r.p.m. on a 3.6 litre engine, and we hope that the power will not fall below 100 HP. at 4500 r.p.m. If you think that perhaps the 1 1/2" would be the better size, have you a scrap carburetter which you could send to Elliott as a model for design work? Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
