'SS{S. Smith}' CHANGE SPEED MECHANISM.
---------------------------

We notice that on the SS.{S. Smith} change speed shaft a phosphor bronze bush is being used. It will be remembered that when the present standard Phantom change speed gear was first made we had trouble with the shaft binding due to foreign matter getting on to the soft shaft and cutting into it and the [text typed over with 'x's] soft steel bush.

We have experienced the same trouble with the SS.{S. Smith} shaft binding.

Mr. Royce instructed that in the present standard job a hardened steel bush and shaft should be used to overcome this fault.
